The four-fold outer envelope is fastened with a string fastener. The front shows a blue ink printed outline drawing of a waterside scene with forest and mountains in the background. A lone person in a canoe is on the water. At the water’s edge is an artist’s easel, equipment, and stool. The scene behind is partially reproduced on the artist’s canvas. The words “COLUMBIA DRAWING PORTFOLIO” “NO. 34” are in the top right of the scene and an empty scroll is in the centre bottom. A diamond patterned rectangular border frames the whole scene. At the centre-bottom of the frame is a logo containing the words “COLUMBIA QUALITY” and the initials CPC. Below the frame is written, also in blue, “Made in B.C.” Narrative
The drawing portfolio, made in BC, is something that would have been readily available in stationary stores in Victoria. It will be useful in displays to demonstrate the artistic interests of the Dunsmuir daughters, particularly Effie.
