Description
A black and white photograph of Lt. James Dunsmuir in uniform mounted on his dappled grey horse Kismet, both subjects in profile, behind them the north facade of Hatley Park, the stiff brown leather frame faced with cotton khaki drill cloth on its front and topped with a cast bronze military collar dog (3.5 cm W X 3.2 cm H) bearing the lettering "31 B.C.H." (British Columbia Horse) and "ARMA PACIS FULGRA" (Arms Are The Balance of Peace).
History of Use
This photograph was donated to Craigdarroch by James Guy Payne Audain, nephew of "Boy" Dunsmuir. He used it in Victoria, B.C. It was probably previously owned by his parents Sarah Byrd Audain and Guy Mortimer Audain.
