Description
A sepia-toned photograph of a man and woman sitting in large chairs in a high-ceilinged room with a timbered beam about 3 metres from the floor above them. To the right of the woman is a profusely carved table with an electric lamp, a framed portrait, an ink pot, a box, and a small ceramic pot on it. In the background is a very large (life-sized) framed painting of a woman and a girl. The verso is stamped in black ink: "PERSONAL POST CARD"
Narrative
This photograph depicts painter Sophie Pemberton with her husband Canon Arthur Beanlands. The profusely carved table is 997.019.004 in the Craigdarroch Castle Primary Collection.

Sophie Pemberton routinely socialized with members of the Dunsmuir family.
History of Use
This photograph was in the possession of its photographer, Ernest Crocker, until shortly before his death in 1968. It was given by him to his friend who later gave it to the donor's late husband. It has been on Vancouver Island since its creation.
