Description
A pleated glass shade for a gas light fixture, the ornate repeating pattern depicting berried vines.
Narrative
This lampshade designed for gas lighting was found in Craigdarroch's attic by one of The Castle Society's employee tour guides in 1972. Craigdarroch's artificial lighting was achieved through the use of gas and electric fixtures, and in some case, fixtures that used both gas and electricity. Today, such fixtures are sometimes called transitional fixtures, especially in the United States.
History of Use
This lampshade was installed in Craigdarroch Castle in 1890 and has been in Craigdarroch since then. It is not known which room(s) it was used in during the Dunsmuir period.
