Craigdarroch Castle was built as the residence for Hon. Robert and Joan Dunsmuir. Robert died before the house was finished, but Joan Dunsmuir lived there from 1890 to 1908. Following her death, the house served a variety of institutional purposes. It is now a historic house museum owned by the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society.
