One sepia-toned photograph of fifteen uniformed men sitting and standing on the deck of TSSY Dolaura. Five men are officers sitting in wicker arm chairs, with a row of ten men standing behind. Eight of the men in the centre back row are wearing dark coloured crew-neck long-sleeved sweaters with the name DOLAURA sewn in a wide curve in large upper case block letters in the centre of the chest. The name DOLAUA is also across the front of the band of their round, flat-top brimless caps. The men standing at the far left and far right are wearing double-breasted dark coloured jackets, dark pants, white shirts, and neck ties. The man on the far right also has a white handkerchief in his jacket. He has a large dark-coloured moustache and his right hand rests on a chair. The man at the far left is the oldest of the group, is wearing an unpressed dark jacket and lighter coloured pants, and white peaked cap with a small badge in the centre. Tied to the ship's rigging is a large awning. A flag incorporating the Union Jack hangs down beneath the awning. The wooden planked deck of the ship is evident. The photograph is glued to a dark grey coloured heavy cardstock, which acts like a matte to frame the image.Narrative
This photograph appears to have been taken in British Columbia, judging by the trees on the shoreline.
TSSY Dolaura had space for 29 crew members, though the precise number of crew members at various times is not yet known.
The identity of some of the men in this photograph is known. Among the seated officers, Alfred William Greaves, Engineer, is second from right. Among the standing men, the gentleman at far right is Mr. Maastricht, chauffeur to Hon. James and Laura Dunsmuir of Hatley Park, Colwood, BC, owners of TSSY Dolaura. Also see
