A printed paper framed document signed by Victoria mayor Courtney Haddock.
Narrative
This is one of several items in this accession previously owned by the donor’s uncle, the late James K. Nesbitt, founding President of The Society for the Preservation and Maintenance of Craigdarroch Castle (The Castle Society). They demonstrate Mr. Nesbitt’s interest in history and heritage conservation and the honors bestowed upon him for his work.

This item, a framed certificate from the City of Victoria, names James K. Nesbitt an honorary citizen, in recognition of his many years of service to the city he loved. After his death in 1981, the City marked his life by installing a bronze plaque on the Causeway wall of Victoria's Inner Harbour.

It was Nesbitt who had initiated and oversaw the installation of the 'Parade of Ships', a programme of installing bronze plaques at the harbour to commemorate the arrival of early sailing vessels bringing colonists to Victoria.
History of Use
Presented to Mr. Nesbitt on December 30, 1971, the certificate was held by Mr. Nesbitt until his death iin 1981, at which time it became the property of his nephew, the donor.
