Description
One sepia-toned studio photograph of Marjorie Jean "Biddy" Holme-Sumner (1904-1989) from mid-chest up. She is wearing a darkly-coloured blouse or dress. Loosely resting around her neck is a fur stole or coat. She wears a string of pearls and large solitary pearl-like earrings. Her hair is parted on her right side and she is looking to her left. Her lips are parted and her teeth visible. The photograph is not mounted. On the back of the photograph is written: “Marjorie Holme-Sumner” in pencil.
Narrative
Marjorie Jean "Biddy" Holme-Sumner (1904-1989) was a great granddaughter of Robert and Joan Dunsmuir of Craigdarroch Castle. It’s not known where this photograph was taken.
History of Use
This photograph was created in about 1930 and was used by Marjorie Jean "Biddy" Holme-Sumner in Britain for an unknown period of time. It was later used by her sister Georgiana Holme-Sumner and her husband Robert Dunlop Stewart. It was next owned by their son, who donated the photograph to Craigdarroch Castle in 2023. He had been using it at his home in Scotland.
