b. A watercolor painting of a winter landscape, the top of a small snow-covered hill rolling from mid-ground to the right, in the centre a single deciduous tree with some scrub brush around it, the sky clear, the artist's monogramme "SM" in upper-case font at bottom right. In a thin, wood, gold coloured frame (a).
Narrative
The artist, Victoria architect Samuel Maclure, painted two pictures that Mrs. Joan Dunsmuir owned when she lived in Craigdarroch. They sold from her bedroom as lots #402 and #402a during the auction of the house's contents on June 22,1909.
This lovely winter landscape is not believed to have been owned by Mrs. Dunsmuir at Craigdarroch. It probably depicts a scene in the Victoria, B.C. area. It was collected in 1997 to present the Dunsmuir-era interiors at Craigdarroch. History of Use
Unknown. This painting was purchased by The Castle Society at a public auction in Victoria, B.C. in 1997. Date
