One sepia-toned photograph of Elizabeth Hamilton Dunsmuir (Mrs. John Bryden), circa 1880, by D.B. Taylor & Co., San Francisco, California. The photograph depicts her head and shoulders in profile. Her hair is up with a ribbon at the back. She is wearing earrings. Her collar is lace with a ribbon tie.
Narrative
Elizabeth Hamilton Dunsmuir (1848-1901) was the eldest child of Robert Dunsmuir and Joan Olive Dunsmuir.
History of Use
This photograph was used by Elizabeth Hamilton Bryden and her husband John Cowper Bryden at their houses in Nanaimo, B.C., in Wellington, B.C., and at their large Esquimalt, B.C. house named Dalzellowlie. It was then used by their daughter Joan Olive Bryden (also known as Mrs. Alastair Douglas Macdonald) at her North Saanich, B.C. farm named Duntulm. It was next used by Joan Olive Bryden's daughter Catherine Henrietta Maud Macdonald (also known as Mrs. John Waters) at her home on Saltspring Island. Her son inherited it and donated it to Craigdarroch Castle in 2008.
