Narrative
The 'Sussex Rush-Seated Chairs' in their various forms were the most successful type of furniture made by Morris & Co. It was termed the "Sussex chair" because it owes its origin to an old chair of village manufacture in Sussex, England. A two-person setee version of this design was also produced. William Morris founded the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in 1861. In 1874 Morris reorganized the company under the sole proprietorship as Morris & Company. History of Use
