One silver-plated swing-style tea kettle with a hinged lid with a small finial. The kettle is heavily repouseed, embossed and engraved with a design of a palm tree, with fern and flowers repeated on both sides. The handle is stationary. Two lugs on each side to hold the pot on the stand and allow the kettle to tilt forward in a stable fashion. There is a circular presentation plaque on one of the kettle side with inscription "SHOOTING MATCH AT HASTINGS WON BY T.W. ALLAN 12 OCT. 1891". The separate base has an opening to hold an open-flame
burner. History of Use
This teakettle was won by T.W. "Tommy" Allan at a shooting match at Hastings in 1891. He was later with British Columbia's Pacific Salvage Company. The teakettle was given to The Castle Society by Mr. Allen's daughter, Mrs. Hebert William Davey, in 1980. 1
