One white glazed porcelain flat-topped thimble with a plain old band at its top and at the bottom rim. Between these bands is a hand-painted design of small pink flowers. The thimble's top is covered in knurling, and the glaze in this area is worn. There are no maker's or design marks.Narrative
Thimbles are designed to protect the fingers and give increased leverage while pushing a needle through fabric. In the Victorian period, thimbles were often highly decorative and used as collectible as well as practical items. History of Use
The donor was a collector of needlework items and left this to Craigdarroch as part of a large bequest of sewing tools. Date
