Description
Small metal crochet hook with a flat, tear-drop shaped mother-of-pearl handle.
Narrative
Crochet, a form of looped yarn textile work, was developed in the early 19th century. It quickly became popular as a handicraft for making tablecloths, bedspreads, doilies, and lace. Small crochet hooks like this were often used to produce fine crochet lace.
History of Use
The donor was a collector of needlework items and bequeathed this to Craigdarroch as part of a large gift of sewing tools.
