Description
A circa 1895 "Madras Ware" art pottery vase by George Jones and Sons Ltd., Trent Pottery, Stoke, Staffordshire (UK), conical in shape, widest at the top where there is a circular opening (15.8 cm diameter) without an up-turned lip, the base with a slightly raised ridge, two small circular marks on the bottom from kiln supports, and in the centre the maker's mark, the glossy ochre-colored body decorated with two clusters of three red/brown peonies boldly painted on each side, the initials of the artist, "H.O.J." (Horace Overton Jones) between leaves at the top left of a stem.
