One bound group of business share certificates printed in black ink on off-white paper. Each share certificate is bordered with a pattern resembling a Greek key motif. On the upper left corner of each certificate is a serial number matched with a number on a descriptive stub to the left of the certificate. There are perforations in the paper for tearing each certificate from its corresponding stub. The numbers start at 353 and end at 478. There are forty-one sheets with three certificates and three stubs per sheet. Printed on each certificate is:
"ALBION IRON WORKS CO. LTD. SHARE CERTIFICATE CAPITAL STOCK, $500,000. 5000 SHARES OF $100 each, Victoria, B.C. 188_, THIS CERIFIES THAT_______ is entitled to _______ fully paid up Shares in the "Albion Iron Works Company Limited", numbered from _____ to _____ both inclusive _____Secretary _______President"Narrative
Robert and Joan Dunsmuir were major shareholders of the Albion Iron Works Company Ltd. of Victoria, and for many years, Robert Dunsmuir was its President. History of Use
These sheets of share certificates were printed in Victoria in about 1883. They were held by the Albion Ironworks business office for an unknown period of time and never issued to a shareholder. Their full history of use is not known. They were acquired by The Castle Society from a Victoria, B.C. collector in 1998. Date
