Description
One paper solicitation in the form of a letter. It consists of printed black text on cream coloured paper. There are two signatures in black ink at the bottom of the letter, "Austin Scriven" and "R. Dunsmuir". Across the top left corner, on the diagonal, handwritten in pencil is, "Answered 26/2/87 by RD" The city name and the date are on the first line, January is crossed out with a line of ink and above is handwritten in black ink, "Feb 9"; second line, "Dear Sir:" The first paragraph, in part: "A limited number of Gentlemen … use of the Drill Shed … for the purpose of playing Tennis…desirous of …forming a Lawn Tennis Club in James Bay." The last paragraph, in part, "Should you desire to have your name enrolled as a member,…sign the enclosed form…". Two holes were punched into the top of the page. There is nothing printed, written or stamped on the reverse side of this paper.

This document confirms that Robert Dunsmuir supported the creation of a tennis club in James Bay.
History of Use
This solicitation was sent to Hon. Robert Dunsmuir by Austin Scriven on February 9, 1887. Its history of use between then and 1960 is unknown. On January 12, 1960 it was mailed to Castle Society founding President James K. Nesbitt c/o the Daily Colonist newspaper by A.F. Buckham of Cumberland, B.C.
