A letter handwritten by Flora Macdonald (sister-in-law to Joan Olive [Bryden] Macdonald). Two pages, double- sided. The paper is cream-coloured and semi-brittle.Narrative
This letter was hand-written by Mrs. Gavin Burns (nee Flora Alexandrina Macdonald), sister of Alastair Douglas Macdonald who was married to Joan Olive Bryden, granddaughter of Robert and Joan Dunsmuir. The recipient of the letter is yet to be identified, but might be Joan Olive Bryden. The letter mentions the Macdonald family farm, Duntulm, in a manner that suggests that Joan Olive Bryden is away. The letter also describes a visit to Sam Matson's farm in Cobble Hill, including the types and numbers of farm animals. The following children of James and Laura Dunsmuir are mentioned: Elinor, Muriel, and Dola. Henrietta Maud Dunsmuir (daughter of Robert and Joan Dunsmuir) and her husband Reginald Spencer Chaplin and son Jacky Chaplin are described as staying in Marion's cottage on the James and Laura Dunsmuir Cowichan River property. History of Use
This letter was once owned by Elizabeth Mary K. Macdonald (Mrs. Robin M. Raymond), daughter of Joan Olive Bryden. It was donated to The Castle Society by her son in 2009.Date
