Biography

R.P. Rithet Co. Ltd. was one of Victoria’s principal wholesale merchant’s during late 19^th and early 20^th Centuries.  The Victoria directory for 1890 stated that they sold grocery items, liquors, insurance, etc., and that they operated at 61 & 63 Wharf Street. Victoria city directories for 1894, 1908, 1910-11, 1917, 1920, 1921, and 1922 reveal that they continued conducting business in Victoria. By 1926, the company had been re-named “Rithet Consolidated Ltd.”

The company’s founder was Robert Paterson Rithet, who was also Mayor of Victoria (1884-1885).
