A framed print depicting a bonneted lady with a dog. Across the top is printed "Copyright 1907 by P. & D. Colnaghi & Co. 14 Pall Mall East, London, and M. Knoedler & Co., 355, Fifth Avenue, New York". The print is mounted in a black frame. On the back is a cream-coloured label for James Connel & Sons 43 Bond Street London. Inscribed by hand on the label is "Mrs. Cunliffe Offley, after Sir Tho. Lawrence, PRA". The work is indistinctly signed by the engraver.Narrative
This print depicts The Hon. Elizabeth Emma Crewe, Mrs. Foster Cunliffe-Offley (1780-1850) (after the original oil painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence, PRA Bristol 1769-London 1830). She was daughter of John, 1st Baron Crewe and Francis Anne Greville Crewe. She later married Foster Cunliffe (1782-1832) of Acton Park, Wrexham, United Kingdom. In 1829 his name was legally changed to Foster Cunliffe-Offley when he assumed the name and arms of Offley.
An identical copy of this print is held by The National Trust at Mount Stewart, a 19th Century country house in County Down, Northern Ireland.History of Use
