One black and white photograph mounted in a hinged cardstock frame. The cover is thin paper. The backing board to which the photograph is affixed is cardstock. The print has a thin white serrated edge. Beneath the photograph is the printed name of the photographer: "George J. Edwards, Newton Stewart". The photograph depicts a boy of about 12 years of age (Berkeley Stewart) wearing a kilt and lightly-coloured shirt and woolen jacket, plus a necktie. He wears a plain leather sporran. He is standing outside on grassy ground. Behind him are some small deciduous trees and in the distance is a pasture and a stone wall. Beyond the wall on a rocky hillside are some farm animals, probably cattle. At the top of the hill are more trees.Narrative
This photograph depicts John Berkeley "Berkeley" Stewart (b.1945), a great, great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. The photograph was taken in about 1957 on the grounds of Bargaly House, Wigtownshire, Scotland, the home of his parents Robert Dunlop Stewart and Georgiana Holme-Sumner. Not seen in this photograph is the River Palnure on the other side of the small deciduous trees. It runs through the grounds of Bargaly House.History of Use
This photograph was created near Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland in about 1960. It was used by Georgiana Holme-Sumner at their home Bargaly House and later at the their home Barrear House, both houses in Wigtownshire. Their son Berkeley Stewart continued using it at Barrear House after the deaths of his parents, until donating it to Craigdarroch Castle in 2023.Date
