At the top is the Royal Cypher for King Edward Vll, next are the words “COMMON PRAYER HYMNS A&M”, and then alternating Tudor Roses the Prince of Wales’s feathers until the word “OXFORD” appears at the bottom. Narrative
This book was inscribed by hand in black ink by HM Queen Alexandra (1844-1925). Margaret Joan Harvey and her husband Berkeley Holme-Sumner attended the Coronation of Their Majesties King Edward Vll and Queen Alexandra on August 2, 1902. They kept their invitation, tickets, and other related documents (see 2022.006.020), but Mrs. Holme-Sumner did not receive this prayer book from HM Queen Alexandra until Christmas of 1902.
Berkeley Holme-Sumner’s parents were friends with Edward and Alexandra.
