One sepia-toned photograph of H.R.H. Prince of Wales in naval uniform outside the bridge of the steamship, Princess Alice, which is docked at the Inner Harbour of Victoria, B.C. Ten other men, some of them in uniform, stand with him, one of them waving with his arm outstretched. Narrative
H.R.H. Prince of Wales was in Victoria finishing a cross-Canada trip to Canadian communities and Canadian Military Hospitals. This photograph captures his arrival on September 23, 1919. He left the ship and went to Government House. The next day, he spoke to a large crowd on the steps of the Provincial Legislative Building. On September 25, he opened Craigdarroch Military Hospital and then later that evening dined at Hatley Park with James and Laura Dunsmuir.History of Use
This photograph was in the possession of its photographer, Ernest Crocker, until shortly before his death in 1968. It was given by him to his friend who later gave it to the donor's late husband. It has been on Vancouver Island since its creation.Date
