One sepia-toned photograph of a woman standing outside a building with four dogs. She stands at the bottom of a staircase and is holding one small dog. A similar dog sits to her right on a wicker chair. A slightly larger dog stands on a newel post to her left. At her feet sits a large darkly-coloured short-haired dog. At the tip of the stairs is a horizontal balustrade leading to a wooden house with two windows, the upper portions of each with 30 small panes of glass. Narrative
This photograph depicts Joan Olive Bryden at her residence, Dalzellowlie, on Head Street, Esquimalt, B.C. The house was built for her parents, John Cowper Bryden and Elizabeth Hamilton Dunsmuir (aka Mrs. John Bryden). The two small small long-haired dogs are also depicted in a photograph of her father (see:

This photograph was taken during the same session as British Columbia Archives j-08104 in which Joan Olive Bryden's face and more of the house is visible.
