Description
One soft cover paper programme with a red cover bearing the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom in the centre in black ink, the upper left corner with the date 9th August, 1902, the inside consisting of four pages of cream-coloured coated paper with black and red ink, the front page reading "ORDER OF PUBLIC WORSHIP IN CELEBRATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING EDWARD VII AND QUEEN ALEXANDRA ON THE 26TH JUNE, 1902 HELD IN Irvine Parish Church 20TH June, 1902." The remaining pages list various psalms, prayers and lessons, as well as a sermon and benediction.
Narrative
This programme outlines the order of public service that occurred in the Irvine Parish Church on the day of the coronation of Their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on August 9, 1902. The printer of this programme was based in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. The church it was used in, Irvine Parish Church, was also in Irvine Scotland. Built in 1774, it is still standing, and is about 10 kilometers west of Kilmarnock.
History of Use
This programme was used by Berkeley Holme-Sumner, R.N. and Mrs. Margaret Joan Harvey (Mrs. Berkeley Holme-Sumner) in England until it was inherited and used by their daughter Georgiana Holme-Sumner (Mrs. Robert Dunlop Stewart) in England, and later, in Scotland by her son, who donated it to The Castle Society in 2022.
