Description
A yellow and red paper admission ticket bearing the words CORONATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING EDWARD VII. AND QUEEN ALEXANDRA 1902 in upper-case lettering together with other words describing the coronation location of Westminster Abbey and the recipient’s seating area. No.45 appears at the upper left corner. The ticket holder is named in handwritten ink: "Mrs. Holme-Sumner". The reverse side of ticket is all yellow and has a floorplan of the Abbey Church with the required Abbey entry point noted as Poet’s Corner.
Narrative
This is one of two tickets used by Lieutenant and Mrs. Berkeley Holme-Sumner to attend the Coronation of Their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra which took place at London’s Westminster Abbey on 9 August, 1902. This ticket is part of other ephemeral papers related to the Coronation of Their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra and was collected to aid in the understanding and presentation of the Dunsmuir family story.
History of Use
This ticket was used by Captain Berkeley Holme-Sumner (RN) CBE OBE (1872-1943) in England until his death in 1943. It was inherited and used by his daughter Georgiana Holme-Sumner (Mrs. Robert Dunlop Stewart) in England, and later, in Scotland by her son, who donated it to The Castle Society in 2022.
