Description
One rectangular silver card case, the case convex and with rounded edges, the front engraved “Berkeley Xmas 1896” in the hand of Margaret Joan Harvey (Mrs. Berkeley Holme-Sumner). The case bears four hallmarks indicating that it was made in London in 1896. The maker’s mark is indistinct.
Narrative
This card case was a gift from Margaret Joan Harvey (1871-1952) to her husband, Berkeley Holme-Sumner (1872-1943) during the first year of their marriage. They were married on February 12, 1896. She was a granddaughter of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir.
History of Use
The donor of this card case is a great great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. It was used by his grandfather Berkeley Holme-Sumner and his descendants, including the donor, in England and Scotland, before being donated to The Castle Society in 2022.
