Description
One silver humidor, rectangular in shape, the interior lined in wood, the exterior’s bottom of scuffed black leather. The box has rounded edges, and the lid is engraved "Berkeley from Madge Xmas 1896" in the hand of Margaret Joan Harvey (Mrs. Berkeley Holme-Sumner). The box bears four hallmarks indicating that it was made in 1896 by A & J Zimmerman Ltd., Regent Place, Birmingham, England.
Narrative
This humidor was a Christmas gift from Margaret Joan Harvey (1871-1952) to her husband, Berkeley Holme-Sumner (1872-1943) during the first year of their marriage. They were married on February 12, 1896. She was a granddaughter of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir.
History of Use
The donor of this humidor is a great great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. The humidor was used by Berkeley Holme-Sumner and his descendants in England and Scotland before being donated to The Castle Society in 2022.
