Description

One sepia-toned photograph of siblings Patrick Somerset Holme-Sumner (1897-1974) (L) and Joan Holme-Sumner (1898-1964) (R) standing on a staircase with a small white short-tailed dog to their left, the dog’s face and ears darkly coloured. Patrick is wearing a white sailor suit with dark collar and scarf, and Joan, a white dress. A chain and a small pendant hang around her neck. The mat paper photograph is affixed to a cream-coloured piece of cardstock, the bottom of which has the following machine-embossed lettering: "Bara AYR AND TROON, N.B." On the verso hand-written in black pen ink is "With much love + wishing you a happy Xmas from Mage + Berkeley Xmas 1903". Beneath this and written in more modern blue ball point pen ink is "Pat and Joan Holme-Sumner".

Narrative

This photograph of siblings Patrick Somerset Holme-Sumner (1897-1974) and Joan Holme-Sumner (right) was taken at Christmas, 1902. It was intended to be a gift to an unidentified person.

History of Use

The donor of this photograph is a great great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. This photograph was used by his family in England and Scotland until it was donated to The Castle Society in 2022.
