One sepia-toned photograph of Annie Euphemia Dunsmuir, about age 5-6, sitting on a stool that is placed onto the seat of a chair. Her right arm rests on a pillow placed on a table beside her. At the bottom of the photograph in printed red font is "Spencer, Artist". On the verso in printed red font is S. A. Spencer, PHOTOGRAPHER, Victoria, B.C. At the top in hand-written blue ink is Effie Dunsmuir 1875

Narrative

This photograph of Annie Euphemia Dunsmuir was taken in Victoria, B.C and inscribed “Effie Dunsmuir 1875” soon after the picture was taken. It is the earliest known image of her.

History of Use

The donor of this photograph is a great great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. This photograph was used Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir on Vancouver Island, and in about 1900, it was sent or brought to England, and finally to Scotland where it was used by the donor until being given to Craigdarroch Castle in 2022.
