Description
One sepia-toned photograph of a woman, about age 80, sitting alone in a horse-drawn carriage. Two men and one woman stand on the opposite side of the carriage. In the distance is an expanse of lawn with laundry drying on a line, or perhaps a tennis net, then a stone wall, and finally, a forest of trees resembling Douglas fir. There are no marks or writing on the back of the print.
Narrative
This photograph is believed by the donor to depict his great great grandmother, Joan Olive Dunsmuir. There is no writing on the back of the print. The trees in the distance are Douglas fir, a tree native to Vancouver Island. The carriage is of a design that was hand-drawn on Craigdarroch’s 1909 auction catalogue by a person who attended that sale. That catalogue is held by the British Columbia Archives library collection, Royal BC Museum.

The circumstances described above do not prove that the woman depicted in this photograph is Joan Olive Dunsmuir. However, they support the donor's assertion that the image depicts her. Craigdarroch's Curator shares that opinion.
History of Use
The donor of this photograph is a great great grandson of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. This photograph was used by his family on Vancouver Island, and in about 1900, it was sent or brought to England, and finally to Scotland.
