Description
A paper legend with a numbered drawing of a hair wreath at the top and the names of the people whose hair was used in it and their corresponding numbers below, all handwritten in black ink. At the top right is written "Mrs. Fields' wreath". The paper has been adhered to a heavier piece of paper to support it and is creased in the middle.
Narrative
Various artistic creations were made of human and sometimes animal hair during the 19th Century. Hairwork included items of personal adornment such as broaches, necklaces and earrings, but also larger artworks mounted in shadow box frames, including wreaths like this example and also https://collection.thecastle.ca/Detail/objects/6190)

 

History of Use

This hair wreath legend/chart is contemporaneous with the hair wreath made by Mrs. Fields in Iowa in the 1870s and brought to Victoria, BC by the donor’s mother's father's parents in the early 20th Century.
