Description
A black and white photograph of Mary Jean Dunsmuir (Mrs. Henry Croft) seated in a tall-backed carved wooden chair, her head turned slightly to her left, seated upright with her hands clasped on her lap, her dark hair pinned back in large ringlets and wearing pearl earrings and wire rimmed glasses, her feet hidden under the dress with her feet on a pillow, her costume a dark-coloured dress with short straight sleeves and trimmed on the shoulder seam with lace, her arms covered in dark-coloured lace sleeves with a row of small tassels hanging down the outside seam, a corsage on her left breast, around her neck a long necklace with a tassel pendant hanging, her head covered with a large wide-brimmed hat topped with a mass of feathers on the top, a dark-coloured ostrich feather at the top back, the background screen depicting a bookcase, the patterned floor made of carpet, oil cloth or linoleum.
Narrative
This photograph is undated, but Mary's face and her costume suggest that it may have been taken in about 1912, when Mary was 50 years old.
