Description
One sepia-toned photographic portrait of Major Arthur Selden Humphreys standing in a British Army uniform with his left hand behind this back and the other at his side. On the back center of the photograph, the photographer Raoul Autin's information is listed in ink and below this written in pencil is "GRANDFATHER". On the top left corner is "P2".
Narrative
Major Humphreys was Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General with the British Army Service Corps at Le Havre, France when he met Kathleen Euphemia Dunsmuir, who was operating a canteen as a volunteer. Major Humphreys was mentioned in dispatches and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).He retired in 1917 and moved to Victoria with his wife, Kathleen Euphemia Dunsmuir.
History of Use

This photograph was used by the Dunsmuir family at Hatley Park. It was later used on the British Columbia mainland before it returned to Vancouver Island. It was donated to The Castle Society by a grandson of Kathleen Euphemia Dunsmuir in 2007.
