Narrative

Edna Wallace Hopper was the step-daughter of Alexander Dunsmuir (1853-1900), son of the builders of Craigdarroch Castle. She had a successful acting career before entering business, first as a purveyor of beauty and lifestyle products, and later as a Wall Street trader in New York City. She was known for her youthful appearance and underwent cosmetic plastic surgery at least three times. One of these surgeries was recorded by still and motion cameras. These five photographs document one of her face-lift procedures.

The impact that Edna Wallace Hopper and her mother had on the Dunsmuir family was significant. These photographs are useful in the documentation and presentation of her life story.

History of Use

These images were probably published in syndicated newspapers in the United States and used by the surgeon for promotional purposes. The history of use of these particular paper prints is unknown.
