A small fabric bundle tied to a turned wooden handle, the flattened bottom is covered in a waxy substance that has a smokey smell to it (possibly lard).Narrative
These pads with turned handles were found by the donor in the 1896 house she purchased from the estate of Clementine Laseur, daughter of the first owner of 1272 Walnut Street, Victoria, BC. The house was purchased fully furnished with the original family’s possessions. The purpose of these pads is to season cast-iron cooking pans. The Dunsmuir household kitchen staff at Craigdarroch probably used similar pads for seasoning pans.History of Use
These were used and stored by the Laseur family at their house at 1272 Walnut Street, Victoria, B.C., built in 1896. They were donated to The Castle Society by the second owner of the house. Date
