A blue and white porcelain tray, part of a six-piece tea set, diamond-shaped with a flat sided, slightly outward sloping lip 2.6cmH, scalloped shaped corners, seven blue transfer print designs randomly placed on the white background thusly: at one end a large stack of bamboo with a leafy stem; in the centre of the tray a fan, one group of three circles and another grouping of five circles with geometric shapes inside; nearer the edges a cluster of honeycomb-like cells, two sumac-like leaves and a grouping of three leaves with berries, on the bottom the blue-coloured maker's mark of the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company Ltd., being a crown on top of a circle, inside the circle a compass-like motif with a 'C' and 'S' at the centre, under the circle the number 75 (the maker's mark for 1875).Narrative
This tea set epitomizes the variety of domestic products in which Anglo-Japanese design was used by manufacturers during the late 19th Century. The set was collected to present the Dunsmuir-era interiors at Craigdarroch Castle. History of Use
This tea service once belonged to donor John O'Reilly's mother, Mary Wyndham (Mrs. Albert O'Reilly) and was used at her family's house, "Felbrigg Hall" in Norfolk, United Kingdom. That house became the property of The National Trust in 1969. See:
