Description
A sterling silver Christening mug, the plain body engraved "Hilda" on one side, the interior gilded, the top of the handle a relief of an acanthus leaf with a tiny turned-up tip, remaining portion of the handle plain and in five concave facets terminating to a plain narrow band of metal near its bottom, the lip rolled, stamped on the bottom the word "Sterling" in upper case lettering and the number "925" together with the Gothic letter "R" and the Lion Passant symbol.
Narrative
This mug was presented by Mrs. Laura Dunsmuir to Hilda Greaves on the occassion of her Christening in 1911. Hilda's father, Alfred Greaves, was Chief Engineer on board the Dunsmuir yacht, TSSY Dolaura.

A fragment of the original gift note written by Mrs. Laura Dunsmuir (985.35.2) accompanied this gift to the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society. The donor was Hilda McFarlane (nee Greaves), the person who received it from Mrs. Dunsmuir.

Hilda was a volunteer docent at Craigdarroch during the 1980's and greatly appreciated to work of the Society.
 
History of Use
This mug was presented by Mrs. Laura Dunsmuir to Hilda Greaves on the occassion of her Christening in 1911. Hilda kept it in Victoria, B.C. until 1985 when she donated it to Craigdarroch Castle.
