This chest of drawers was made in Victoria, B.C. by the firm, Weiler Bros. The company had a factory on James Bay and a showroom and warehouse in the Weiler Building which still stands at the southeast corner of Government and Broughton Streets.
The colour of this finish was often referred to as "golden oak" during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A similar colour palette was used on the white oak panelling of Craigdarroch's main halls and staircase.
Although this piece was not used by the Dunsmuirs in Craigdarroch, Mrs. Dunsmuir's personal bedroom suite was made of "golden oak". History of Use
