A sepia-toned photograph of the head and torso a young woman (Mary Jean Dunsmuir), her head turned to her right, her hair curly in front, the back pinned up, her light-coloured dress with a lace bodice, ruffled collar, a drop neckline with a large white ostrich feather attached to the bodice, around her neck a thick rope-style necklace, her ears adorned with earrings, a printed inscription on the photograph's auxiliary support giving the name and address of the photographer's studio.
