Description

One small Satsuma vase profusely decorated in gold and human figures.

Narrative

This vase was made in Satsuma Province in southern Kyushu, Japan's third largest island. It probably dates to the Meiji Period (1868-1912).

History of Use

This vase was purchased for Craigdarroch by The Castle Society's founding President James K. Nesbitt from Frances Jordan, owner of "Norma MacDonald's Treasure House in Century Inn" at 603 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC on May 11, 1972. Its history of use before then is not known.
