Black and white aerial photograph of downtown Victoria. Depicts downtown and the intersection of Joan Crescent and Fort Street (earliest photo of the former Dunsmuir estate). Small pieces of black ribbon strung through the photo and across the top right and bottom left corners.Narrative
This June 11, 1919 aerial photograph shows downtown Victoria and at the lower left portion of the photograph, a small section of the Craigdarroch estate at the intersection of Joan Crescent and Fort Street. It is possible that a shadow in the image may be one of the old Dunsmuir-era gateposts.
The photograph was published in the 2005 book, Wings Across The Water, written by former Castle Society board member Peter L. Smith and his associate, Elwood White. In the book, the photograph is attributed to the donor’s father, Gordon A. Cameron. The donor believes that the image was not taken by his father, but rather, by Archie Wills, a Victoria newspaper journalist and friend of his father.History of Use
