A late 19th Century Chinese export rosewood armchair, the back and seat inset with figured gray marble panels, the back with a curved top rail, the sides with ornate open panels, the wooden surfaces profusely inlaid in mother-of-pearl, the square-shaped legs with four stretchers. Narrative
This Chinese rosewood chair is of a type generally considered by experts to have been made for the export market. The profuse inlaid decoration and elaborate carving of this type of Chinese furniture found favour among North American homeowners during the late 19th Century. History of Use
Unknown. This chair was purchased by Castle Society founding President James K. Nesbitt in December, 1978. It has probably been in southwestern British Columbia since about 1890.Date
