One silver-plated trumpet vase, bearing the mark that Henry Birks & Sons used from 1904-1924.Narrative
This vase's Dunsmuir (Bryden) provenance makes it an important part of Craigdarroch's Primary Collection. It was collected to present the Dunsmuir family story at the Castle.History of Use
This silver-plated trumpet vase is believed to have been owned by Joan Olive Dunsmuir at Craigdarroch Castle sometime between 1904 and 1908. It was given to Laurie Harpell (nee Bryden b. 1944), by her grandmother Ellen Getrude Bryden (nee Tarbell 1882-1964), also known as “Mimi”. Mrs. Bryden told her granddaughter Laurie that the vase “came from your grandfather’s side of the family” and that it “came from the Castle”. Laurie’s grandfather was John William Bryden (1869-1953), son of Elizabeth Hamilton Dunsmuir (1848-1901) and John Cowper Bryden (1848-1915). Elizabeth Hamilton Dunsmuir was the first child of Robert and Joan Olive Dunsmuir. Sometime between 1974 and 1976, Laurie Harpell gave the vase to Lynn Headstrom, her children’s caregiver. Lynn Headstrom sold it to the vase’s donor, the Collectibles Gallery (later re-named called Picker's Consignment) in about 2010.Date
