Description
A gold thimble with a raised rim. There is a wide band above the rim with a Greek key design in blue enamel flush with the surface of the thimble. This is interrupted by the initials "E.C.F.", also in blue enamel. The upper sides and domed top are covered in knurling.
Narrative
Thimbles are designed to protect the fingers while pushing a needle through fabric. In the Victorian period, thimbles were often highly decorative and used as collectible as well as practical items. 
History of Use
The donor was a collector of needlework items and left this to Craigdarroch as part of a large bequest of sewing tools.
