Description
A brass thimble with a rolled rim. A narrow plain band above the rim and then knurling to and over the top.
Narrative
Thimbles are designed to protect the fingers while pushing a needle through fabric. In the Victorian period, thimbles were often highly decorative and used as collectible as well as practical items. This thimble was acquired as part of a kit with a hive-shaped thimble holder, small spool, and needle holder.
History of Use
The donor was a collector of needlework items and bequeathed this to Craigdarroch as part of a large gift of sewing tools.
