Description
Black and white photograph of a man sitting on a white horse. The man is wearing a flat peaked cap and a riding jacket with breeches and puttees. The horse and rider are standing on a grassy slope near a cast iron horizontal bar fence. There are trees behind them.
Narrative
The man depicted in this photograph is William Edward John Mann, usually known as Fred Mann, coachman to the Dunsmuir family at Hatley Park. The picture is taken at Hatley Park and in the background, the cast iron fencing that ran throughout the property is visible. The fences were made by Bayliss Jones and Bayliss in Wolverhampton, UK.
History of Use
This photograph and the Dunsmuir family album that it comes from was passed down through Laura Dunsmuir's daughter Dola Frances Dunsmuir (Mrs. Henry Cavendish) to the family of her sister Kathleen Euphemia Dunsmuir (Mrs. Seldon Humphreys) from whom it was acquired by The Castle Society in 2012.
