Black and white photograph of two adults and two children dressed in winter clothes and standing on ice skates in a snowy location. The woman on the left of the photograph is wearing a woolen skirt and coat with a long, dark-coloured scarf and white gloves. She is holding hands with a young girl, dressed in a light-coloured woolen jacket and pants. A young boy is standing close to the girl, wearing knee-length breeches with long, woolen socks and a thick woolen sweater. He is also wearing an oversized newsboy cap. A man is standing on the right in a Fedora hat, and a heavy wool jacket with matching breeches in a wide herringbone tweed pattern. He also has on a striped shirt with stiff collar and a silk polka dot tie, and light-coloured leather gloves.Narrative
The people depicted in this photograph are members of the Audain family. From left to right: Sarah Byrd (Dunsmuir) Audain, Laura Francis Audain, James Guy Payne Audain and Guy Mortimer Audain. The location is not identifiable, but it is possibly Switzerland where members of the Dunsmuir family are known to have taken winter holidays.History of Use
This photograph and the Dunsmuir family album that it comes from was passed down through Laura Dunsmuir's daughter Dola Frances Dunsmuir (Mrs. Henry Cavendish) to the family of her sister Kathleen Euphemia Dunsmuir (Mrs. Seldon Humphreys) from whom it was acquired by The Castle Society in 2012.
