An earthenware candy dish in a shallow bowl-like shape with five deep scallops along the rim. The base is flat. The top is glazed in a thick layer of bright mid-blue background enamel with six small light blue petal flowers on light green stems. The main flower in the centre has six large petals of light-yellow tipped in white glaze. The centre has three sections: two blood red; one pink; one with green coloured leaves and a stem painted around and one large chrysanthemum-like flower in mid-brown. Four other smaller ones are across from it. The underside is a wash of robin's egg blue. The bottom is the natural white of the earthenware showing with a high-gloss clear glaze over the top. The maker's marks, "LONGWY KENILWORTH STUDIOS FRANCE" in transfer-print under the glaze on the bottom appear inside inside and around a black outlined rectangle.History of Use
