This bound soft-cover document titled A Letter to John Fairfax-Ross, 16th April 1944 was written by Christopher Reynolds Stone (1882-1965), a successful British broadcaster and author. Stone was the step-father of Ivan Chinnery (1894-1914), who was in turn the author of a handwritten journal describing his 1913 fishing trip aboard the Dunsmuir’s TSS Dolaura. That fishing journal is in The Castle Society’s collection (accession 2009-18). Chinnery died of a chronic respiratory ailment in 1914. Stone’s letter was to Ivan Chinnery’s sister Felicite’s son, John Fairfax-Ross. Its purpose was to record for posterity, something about the life and character of Ivan. A deeply moving story, this letter adds considerably to the significance of the already important fishing journal.History of Use
